Brown Widow Spiders

Who knew? We found a brown widow spider on the outside of our garage door AND we found one at our kids school!  So they are definitely out and about.  Be aware that when your kids are ‘hunting’ the huge orb spiders that come out in October every year that they could run into one of these.  Has anyone else seen these? brown-widow(link to article from Emegency Medicine Journal)

  1. They are definitely well established in Louisiana. They’ve shown up at my work in New Orleans, at a friends house in Denham Springs, and my brother that works as a motorcycle mechanic has seen them in bikes he works on in Baton Rouge.

  2. I find them quite often under our patio furniture. I just killed 3 last nite alone with 4 eggs. I use a long lighter that’s used to light a grill and I burn them and the eggs. I have people come spray as well. But from what I understand they actually like or prefer to eat dead bugs. So I’m kinda wondering if by having the pest man come spray if I’m defeatingmh purpose & attracting more. Any dead bugs that I see I instantly sweep away from anywhere any family member including our dogs go near. But I feel like I’m gettin no where, if anyone knows how/what I can do to get rid of these pests PLEASE ADVISE. On average I kill at least 4-5 a week here in louisiana. Thanks S.H

  3. I found one of these without the egg sac under my bathroom cabinet. I didn’t know what it was until I googled it. NV

  4. I found one at the end of my chain link fence, with babies and an egg sac. She made her home inside the long metal pole at the top of the fence. FL.

  5. I just found one of these in my garage on the bottom of one of our plastic chairs. Luckily no eggs were with it.

  6. I found one in my back yard with two egg sacs. I live in Mexico and ‘ve never seen one of these spiders before

  7. Yep. Truly Nolen found 7 adult widows on my lanai with egg sacs. They said it was alarming. I have seen them hanging around playground equipment, garbage cans and etc. ugh.

I am not happy about the fact that I currently have a brown widow inside my window with three egg sacs. Truly No
